Purpose

In 1989, the SBVC Alumni Association established the exclusive Alumni Hall of Fame to honor former students whose lives display exceptional professional accomplishments and contributions to the the well-being of others. The San Bernardino Valley College Foundation Alumni Hall of Fame aims to recognize our honorees for their unique and inspiring professional journeys and to present exemplary, positive role models to current and future students.

Nomination Criteria

  1. The candidate should have attended San Bernardino Valley College for at least two semesters and earned at least twenty-four units.
  2. The candidate need not be a graduate, but it should be evident that the San Bernardino Valley College experience was significant in relation to the nominee’s achievements. Alumni whose association with San Bernardino Valley College was minimal or casual should not be considered.
  3. The type of achievement judged should be all-inclusive, not restrictive; global, not parochial; recognizable, not necessarily well known or popular.
  4. Primary consideration will be given to the candidate near career’s end, if not actually retired. Mid-career achievers, first bloom achievers, or potential achievers will be given secondary consideration. Posthumous recognition will also be considered.
  5. The candidate should be one of outstanding merit and achievement who exemplifies standards of education excellence and ideals of human concerns. Selection of honorees should be removed from cronyism, political ambition, financial settlement, and ethnic or gender considerations.
  6. The candidate should have demonstrated continued commitment to SBVC through donated time, resources, monetary contributions.
  7. Candidates may nominate themselves.

Selection Procedures

  1. The Alumni Committee of the SBVC Foundation Board of Directors will receive nominations for the Hall of Fame from the membership at large once yearly.
  2. The Alumni Committee will evaluate nominations and submit a narrowed list of eligible candidates to the Board for selection.
  3. The Board of Directors will determine the number of selections to be made on a yearly basis.

Award Ceremony

Selected alumni will be notified and honored at an event hosted by the SBVC Foundation. A permanent record as well as photo will be featured on the San Bernardino Valley College Foundation website and appropriate media.
